Nam Theun 1 Power Company Limited (NT1PC) successfully organized a five-day technical training on Remote Sensing, Google Earth Engine (GEE), Drone Mapping, and Web ODM (Open Drone Map) at the Nam Theun 1 Hydropower Project site. The training aimed to enhance staff capacity in utilizing cutting-edge geospatial technologies for environmental monitoring, planning, and infrastructure development.

The training was attended by six key personnel from NT1PC’s Environment and Social Division.

The training provided a comprehensive understanding of modern geospatial tools and how they support sustainable development, resource management, and infrastructure planning. Key modules included:

  • Fundamentals of Remote Sensing: Understanding data acquisition via satellite and airborne sensors.
  • Google Earth Engine (GEE): Hands-on training on processing and analyzing satellite imagery using cloud-based scripting tools.
  • Drone Mapping Techniques: Flight planning, data collection, and sensor usage for high-resolution imagery.
  • Web ODM: An open-source platform for processing drone images into orthomosaics, 3D models, and point clouds.

Participants also gained insights into practical applications of these technologies in environmental monitoring, land-use planning, and disaster management. The course emphasized data visualization, spatial analysis, and integrated decision-making, with real-world case studies and project-based exercises.

This training is part of NT1PC’s broader initiative to build internal technical expertise and strengthen data-driven decision-making. By equipping its staff with practical skills in GIS, remote sensing, and drone technology, NT1PC aims to enhance its operational efficiency and environmental stewardship.

NT1PC remains committed to fostering innovation and professional development to support the sustainable management of its hydropower operations and surrounding communities.
